The idea was to make up a loop on the viola then improvise over it on the violin all in one go. I have the video footage from the beginning of the viola take but decided the video didn't really need it. Added some midi doubling the two string parts and hey presto! Not brilliant but still pleasant I think.

Description: For the complete method, please visit www.ImproviseForReal.com. In this video I demonstrate how we study the 12 bar blues in the Improvise for Real method, and how you can learn to really understand blues harmony for yourself. The video teaches some basic concepts of how to approach your music study, and then shows an actual demonstration of a student applying these concepts on the violin. For more information on how YOU can learn to improvise your own original solos over any kind of music, please visit www.ImproviseForReal.com. (Below is some background on the method itself.) Improvise for Real offers a surprising vision of modern harmony that brings together the entire world of chords and harmony onto a single "tonal map" that you can visualize and play anywhere on your instrument. For many people, Improvise for Real is the key that enabled them to finally understand harmony and to really enjoy improvising. These video demonstrations are designed to accompany the book "Improvise for Real" which contains the complete method. The method guides the student through creative exercises that empower the student to explore and discover the beautiful world of modern harmony and to improvise "for real", without relying on patterns, licks or formulas. If you would like to follow along with these free lesson videos, just come to www.ImproviseForReal.com and get your copy of the complete method!

http://fiddlerman.com In order to improvise on the violin you should familiarize yourself with the most common jazz scale which is the minor Dorian scale. Learn this scale in all the key signatures and both directions to give you the freedom to let loose and play jazz effortlessly. Add the 9th to the scale to make it even more interesting. Listen to a lot of jazz to learn from what others are doing. More tutorials at http://fiddlerman.com

from the Broadway classic "Fiddler on the Roof" (Playwright: Joseph Stein Music: Jerry Bock) about tradition and all that stuff... this is my take (and a bit of fun improv as an intro) on the pretty song.
